12/30/03

• CBS "DishNet" channels have been mirrored and the EPG names changed to the following (ANON):
  • CBS New York EPG Name CBSNY on channel 253 (Tp 20 at 119)
  • CBS Los Angeles EPG Name CBSLA on channel 254 (Tp 15 at 119)
  • CBS Denver EPG Name CBSDN on channel  8199 (Tp 14 at 110)
  • CBS Chicago EPG Name CBSCH on channel 8489 (Tp 20 at 110)
    • None of these channels are available to subscribers at this time
• Added a channel "index" by channel type at the bottom of this page.
• Dish apparently has a "slate" ready for the CBS O&O stations.  The following channels have a duplicate number "in the wings" on transponder 18 at 119°: 8001, 8031, 8101, 8131, 8151, 8201, 8221, 8251, 8401, 8491, 8531, 8571, 8731, 8771 and 8831.  They are not yet (and hopefully will never be) available to subscribers.  (ANON)   It is unknown what the slate says. Speculation says that Dish and CBS may be having some difficulty reaching a 12/31 agreement for renewal of carriage agreements.  I have not added the duplicate listing to the chart at this time.

12/29/03

• No substantial changes today.  By request (going back to the instant I added city names to the locals), I've stated adding the "side banner" titles to channel groups.  I will index the whole thing and add it below the list to make it easier to find channels.  This is still a work in progress so you may find several "banners" empty.

12/22/03

• WOW channels 125 and 196 turned off to subscribers.  These channels were relaying info on how to receive locals in specific areas for free.

• Savannah local ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS and UPN affiliates now available to local subscribers on channels 7480-7486 at 105°.  The package will sell for $4.99 a month until Fox can be added.  It seems like Dish and GOCOM have not yet seen eye-to-eye over retransmission consent issues.

12/19/03

• Looks like Dish Network and Emmis Communications kissed and made up late today.  The following TV stations are now available to their respective locals packages: (ANON)
  • KHON TV 2 (8903) Fox affiliate in  Honolulu, Hawaii
  • WFTX TV 36  (9218) Fox affiliate in Ft. Myers, Florida (Cape Coral)
  • WALA TV 10 (7353) Fox affiliate in Mobile, AL/Pensacola, FL
  • WBPG TV 55 (7354) WB affiliate in Mobile, AL/Pensacola, FL (Gulf Shores)

12/18/03

• WOWK TV CBS Charleston/Hintington, WV (7316) is now available to subscribers. (ANON)
• WSAZ TV NBC Charleston/Huntington, WV (7317) is now available to subscribers. (ANON)
• Channels 250, 7999, 9399 which had been showing "The Sportsman's Channel" for some time (not available to mere mortals)  is now showing the same info as 240.  Arkansas state satellite tax info.  Only channel 240 is visible to Arkansas residents.

12/17/03

• Hartford locals 7380-7387 are now available to subscribers with Dish 500 antennas
• Milwaukee locals 7070-7080 (no CBS) now available to subscribers.  Requires 121° SuperDish
• Flint/Saginaw Michigan locals 7530-7536 now available to subscribers.  Requires 121° SuperDish
• Champaign, IL local channels 7400-7407 now available to subscribers.  Requires 105° SuperDish
• Charleston/Huntington WV local channels 7315-7325 (No CBS or NBC) now available to subscribers.  Requires 105° SuperDish
• Lansing MI local channels 7510-7516 (No UPN) now available to subscribers.  Requires a 121° SuperDish.
• Channel 220 (The Travel Channel) had traveled on over to channel 215. Channel 220 has been turned off.
• Many of the foreign language channels at 121° have been turned back over to the engineering tier. (ANON) These channels (680--824) have never been available to subscribers.  Most are mirrors of existing foreign language channels already at 61.5° and 148°
• Savannah, GA locals now uplinked to 105° on channels 7480-7487.  This includes ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, UPN and 2 PBS. (ANON)  There is no WB broadcast affiliate in that market.
• Flint/Saginaw area PBS and TCT affiliates are now uplinked to 105° on channels 7536 and 7537. (ANON)
• Channel 240 is now delivering "satellite tax" info to Arkansas residents.  The state Legislature is passing a satellite tax.
• StarNet (though still uplinked) has been removed from the EPG (9406). (ANON)  It is now in the engineering tier on its way off the satellite.

12/16/03 (ANON)

• Milwaukee local ABC, NBC, FOX, WB, UPN, PBS(2), and  Ind. (channels 7070-7080) have been turned over to the subscriber system at 121°  This means the market is "technically available" however CSRs will not be able to add the package to the account until tomorrow or  Thursday.  This is when this market is supposed to launch.
• The same goes for Hartford local ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, WB, UPN and PBS at 119° (Channels 7380-7387)
• And Charleston/Huntington, WV ABC, Fox, WB, PBS (3) at 105°.  Status on CBS and NBC unknown.  Status for WOUB Athens has to do with "good quality signal" to the POP. (7315-7325)
• Champaign has also been turned over to the subscriber system and should be available tomorrow or Wednesday at 105°.  ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, WB, UPN and the Urbana PBS (7400-7407).  Unknown status on the other two PBS stations.  More than likely signal issues.
• Lansing Michigan has also been turned over to the subscriber system and may be available in the next day or two at 121°.  ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and PBS (7510-7516) at 121°.  Unknown status on the UPN affiliate.
• Flint Michigan ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox locals have also been moved to the subscribers system (7530-7533) at 121°.  Status of the THREE PBS affiliates in that area unknown.
  • I WANT TO EMPHASIZE THAT NONE OF THESE MARKETS ARE AVAILABLE AS I TYPE THIS.  ALL THESE LOCALS HAVE BEEN MADE READY FOR SUBSCRIBERS.  HOWEVER THEY HAVE NOT BEEN OFFICIALLY LAUNCHED YET. (Tony)
• WOW channel 197 now has Harford Local free preview information.  This channel may not yet be visible to subscribers in the Hartford area.

12/13/04

• Added a note to StarNet (9406) stating that it will be going off the air as of 12/14 at 11:59pm due to lack of funding.  Dish will be putting the "Public Interest" slate until the 17th and then pull the plug on the channel number.
• Channel 7040 (also mapped to channel 70 on most receivers) available to Anchorage local area subscribers seems to be an Alaska Government Affairs channel.  At last report it was "Governor TV"
• Channel 499 (HotZone) at 148° is available for PPV orders.
• A slight change in the format of this page.  As a result of e-mail suggestions, the "recent changes" are now at the top of the page rather than at the bottom.  This way those with slower connections can see what's new before having to wait for the whole chart to load.  As always suggestions and constructive comments are welcome!
• And another change thanks to an e-mail suggestion.  The cells have been "tightened up" a little bit so that those with smaller screens and lower resolution can fit more info on their screens.  The print size has not changed. 
• Finally, all the changes to this page will be documented on http://ekb.dbstalk.com/listlogs.htm simultaneously.  Again this is for the benefit of those that only have slower connections.

12/11/03

• HBO HD, Showtime HD, Event HD and PPV HD are now available from the 110° location to subscribers of the respective packages on channels 9456, 9460, 9466 and 9467. (ANON)  The Event and PPV channels are available to all subscribers with Dish HD receivers.
• Ft. Smith, AR et. al locals (7495-7501) are now available to local area subscribers.  KSBN is not part of this package, however it is avaliable at 61.5° as part of the Sky Angel Package.
• Sherman Texas and Ada, OK locals 7521&2 are anow available to local area subscribers for $3.99.
• Evansville,IN locals now available to local area subscribers WITHOUT ABC.  $4.99 until ABC is added. Channels 7365-7372
• TV Azteca 825 is now at 110° transponder 3. (FW)

12/10/03

• Channel 190 (Reality TV) is now available to AT150 subscribers. (Stan/ANON/numerous posts on DBSTalk.com)
• ALSKA channel 7040 and 70 is now visible to Alaska area subscribers (ANON)  A guess is that this channel is telling the area subscribers that KING seattle will no longer be available.  If you are in Alaska and can see this channel please e-mail the address above with the text of the channel (tony)
• Champaign/Springfield/Decatur local channels now uplinked to channels 7400-7409 at 105° transponder 16. (ANON/Anon)
• HDTV HBO, Showtime, PPV and Event moved from 105° to 110° on channels 9456, 9460, 9466 and 9467 transponders 19 and 13. (ANON)
• Lexington, LY ABC, CBS, NBC  and Fox moved from transponder 19 to 12 at 110° (ANON)
• Chicago ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox moved from transponder 19 to 20 at 110° (ANON)
• CHNL1-4 channels 9901-9904 transponders 5, 7, 20 and 24 have been removed.  These were transponder "placeholders" for when these transponders where unused.  Several receivers couldn't handle an empty transponder and locked up.  Dish had these placeholders there to keep those receivers happy.  They are no longer necessary. • channel 9905 (CHNL 5), former placeholder for tp 25 was replaced by the DVR channel and moved to transponder 26.  DVR was on channel 102. This channel is still not available to mere mortals. (ANON)

12/6/03

• I officially gave up on tracking the NBA/NHL channels transponder/satellite changes today.  I find that by the time I can get to updating the chart, the information was old.  The NBA and NHL package channels (540-552 and 561-572) change transponder/satellite positions daily. They are all mirrors of the Regional Sport Channels found on channels 412-437 and "SKDL" Channels found on channels 9910-9917. After trying to keep up with this every day with MANY MANY thanks to (ANON) I have decided to stop tracking this information as long as these channels mirror the channels I just listed. These channels will always be in the following places: Transponders 10, 12, 17, 18 or 21 at 119° and transponders 24 or 25 at 110°.

• KOLR and KDEP CBS and Fox in Springfield Mo. are now available to local subscribers on channels 7221 & 7223(ANON)
• WRCB NBC Chattanooga is now available to local subscribers on channel 7332 (ANON)
• WYOU and WBRE CBS and NBC in Scranton/Wilkes Barre, PA are now available to local subscribers on channels 9246 and 9247 ONLY.  These channels are not yet mapped to their local channel numbers on the "newer" Dish receivers. This will be corrected very shortly more than likely (ANON)

• Bakersfield California full power locals are now available to subscribers from 110° California spot beam on channels 7300-7305.  This is ABC, CBS, NBC and UPN.  The low power Fox station is uplinked to 7303 but is not yet available. (ANON³/Jim/JP)  Since it is a low power channel it does not qualify for "Must Carry" status.  Therefore unless there is some technical reason why the channel is not being sold (and according to some sources the channel looks fine in testing)  it is by definition a retransmission consent issue.  Either Dish is not looking for retransmission consent or the local station isn't giving it.
• Sherman TX/Ada, Ok local channels (they got both kinds, country AND western) are now uplinked to 110° spot 8 on channels 7521 & 7522 (ANON)

• Ft. Wayne local channels have moved from tp 2 at 105 to tp 8 at 121.  They are still on channels 7435-7472 (ANON)
• Ft. Smith, Arkansas, et al locals are now uplinked at 121 transponder 23 on channels 7495-7502.  PBS affiliate is actually a mirror of the Little Rock PBS and originates on transponder 5 at 110°.(ANON)
• Lansing Michigan locals are now uplinked to 121 transponder 2 on channels 7510- 7516 (ANON)
• Flint/Saginaw/Bay City ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox now uplinked to transponder 7 at 121 on channels 7530-7533.  The three PBS channels in the market are not yet uplinked.  They are still listed as (9) (Rumored--by me :-)...absolutely no official word on these) on channel 7536-7538. (ANON)
• Green Bay locals are back up on the satellites for yet another try.  Now they are at 121 transponder 22.  They are still on channels 9330-9336 (ANON)
• Channel 196 is now available as an information channel to Springfield, MO locals subscribers.  It is a "free preview information" channel (ANON)
• Dish has added yet another adult entertainment channel for your....errr...amusement?  Adult Showcase is now available for PPV purchase at $13.99 a pop (per se)

(ANON)  At this point it is possible that Dish and ACME Television, LLC are not seeing eye-to-eye.  ACME also owns the WB affiliates in Green Bay and Champaign.

• Channel 1 Russia (CH1RU on 595) has been turned on to subscribers. (anon/ANON)  There is a free preview this weekend for this channel 10/16-10/23.  There is no official info on packaging on the Dish Web site at this time.  However word is that it will sell a la carte for $14.9999999999999999 a month (less than $15 a month).
• The Philly "minor" locals have been removed from 129°.  They were mirrored a while back on the 61.5° satellite and the transition period is over.  The "mapped" channel numbers have been changed at 61.5° to reflect the stations over the air number instead of the over the air + 1 channel scheme...except channel 69 which was mapped as 68. (ANON)
• For a short while there transponder 7 at 129° (Dish's only leased transponder there) was dormant.  However it popped back to life only containing the EPG channel 36861. (ANON)
• Channel 7000 added to the grid.  This is the 105° equivalent to channel 9900 at 110°.  It is on transponder 7.
• Three new NHL Center Ice channels added to the grid.  Channels 550, 551 and 552 are all at 119° (transponders 21, 10 and 17 respectively) (ANON)
• Yet another center Ice channel move...channel 540 this time.  From tp 24 at 110 to tp 21 at 119. (ANON)

  • Baltimore....yes, I said Baltimore...on channels 8730-8736 (ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, WB, UPN and PBS)
  • Richmond on channels 9385-9391 (ABC, CBS, NBC/WB, Fox, UPN/Pax and PBS)
    • NOTE: The CSRs may not be able to turn these channels on until 10/16 to 11/1.  All these cities require a "Superdish" which allows a receiver to "see" the 105° location.  Right now you CANNOT use a Superdish and a second dish for one of the side slots.  The switch that allows that is expected to become available in January or February.
    • Starting 11/1/03 a Superdish will be available installed FOR FREE with a 1 year commitment to AT50, Dish Latino or higher package AND "Superdish Content" (such as locals) plus enrollment in Credit Card Auto-Pay.  The Superdish will also be available WITHOUT A COMMITMENT for $199 installed.  No other details available at this time.  CSRs most likely WILL NOT know much more until 11/1 or shortly thereafter.

• The brand new Jackson, MS Fox station WUFX (9273) is now being uplinked to 110° along with the rest of the Jackson locals on transponder 14.  However it is not yet available to subscribers.
• KEZI ABC Eugene (7180) and Echostar have apparently reached a retransmission consent deal.  It has been reported that Dish will be adding this channel to the Eugene local line-up on 10/9 (JM)
• The NHL Center Ice Channels (that moved around again today!) are now visible on mere mortals' receivers on channels 540-549 (Jeff F, ANON, anon, Joe P, Paul, Bill, JP, Anon, Art, and the whole Hee-Haw gang!  Thanks everyone!  I don't mind one bit getting all these informative e-mails)
• The NHL Center Ice channels did a (hopefully) final move.  Channels 541-544, 546 and 547 moved to transponder 24 at 110°.
• Echostar is clearing off transponders 23 and 24 at 61.5°.  These two transponders Dish was using under Temporary authority from the FCC were awarded to the new DBS service "VOOM" also under temporary authority.  The following channels moved from transponder 23 at 61.5:  470, 471, 473, 533, 9621, 9622, 9641, 9996 and the unlisted 32768 WBSTR channel.
• Quite a few more channels moved around today.  Mostly the 148 mirror of all the transponder 24 and 23 61.5 channels.
• Echostar 9 had quite a few channel additions.  Unfortunately since the EPG is not yet fully integrated into the Dish system, it will be a little while before the channel names are found. (Editors note...Most of the submissions I get are NOT from hackers who can actually see the channels on the satellites unless they are FTA or they subscribe.  All they do it read the data stream from the satellite to see what is where.)  The channel additions will be in the 680-824 range.  I will be adding them as more complete information becomes available.

That is the official release dates for these channels. However the channels ARE technically available to subscribers right now. • Discovery HD Theater is now in free preview mode on channel 9420 at both 61.5° and 148°. It is theorized that this is so pre-orders for the new HD package can be processed without interrupting programming to those that are subscribed to Discovery HD. • Missoula, Montana locals now uplinked to transponder 2 at 105° on channels 7120-7123 & 7126 (ANON) They are not yet available to subscribers.
• The Green Bay locals reappeared today as expected.  They are now on transponder 2 at 105°.  They are still assigned channels 9330-9336 (ANON) They are not yet available to customers.
• Up until now the channels at 105° have been listed with two sets of transponder numbers # out of 24 and # out of 32.  Since there are only 24 usable transponders for channels at 105, Dish has chosen to go by a scale of 24.  All the 105° channels now only show this transponder number.
• HBO HD and PPV HD now have a second channel number assigned at 105°.  HBO HD is on channel 9456 at 105 and HDPPV is on channel 9467. (ANON)
• Added the Electronic Program Guide (EPG) channel for the 105° location.  As with the other 4 locations, it is on channel 36861.  It is on transponder 7 at 105°.
• There are several DNL and SSD channels in the 30,000 channel number range.  Since subscribers cannot ever get these channels, they are not included in the monster list.  For those curious, the following are all on transponder 7 at 105:

• AMC2 at 105° lit up today!  Transponder 18 (24tp map) or 24 (32 tp map) now contains 10 local channels.  7050-7053 from Wichita/Hutchinson, Kansas and 9385-9388, 9390, 9391 from Richmond, VA.  These channels are FTA on an MPEG2 receiver but not visible on any Dish receiver right now. (ANON)

• 4 PPV channels swapped satellites.  Channel 503 and 508 jumped from 119° to 110° while channels 511 and 519 jumped from 110° to 119°.  (ANON)

• A new Russian channel was added to the grid on channel 595 to Tp 14 at 61.5 and Tp 7 at 148.  Channel 1 Russia.  This was formerly ORT.  This channel is not yet available to subscribers.
• Channels 620-623 and 625-639 have all now officially "moved" to the 800 block.  All the channels are showing the same test card informing subscribers to tune to the 800 block.  This card is on transponder 18 at 119°
• Three new Korean channels were added to the grid.  All are on transponder 18 at 61.5° and transponder 11 at 148°.  These channels are not yet available to subscribers.  The channels are :

• As of this moment Daystar and Familynet are still on Dish Network, however FEDERAL COURT RULING HAS ORDERED DISH TO REMOVE CHANNELS 9408 AND 9414 FROM THEIR LINE UP SINCE SKY ANGEL HAS EXCLUSIVITY.  Both Daystar and FamilyNet are appealing.  Perhaps Dish is too, but Dish MAY NOT have a leg to stand on due to agreements with Dominion.  Look for these channel to disappear unless an emergency stay is granted pending appeal. • Univision, Galavision and TV Azteca on channels 270, 272 and 624 have "moved" to the 800 block.  All channels now show the same info card telling subscribers to tune to the 800 range to see this channel. (ANON)

• Placeholder channels 9901-9905 added to the grid (ANON).  These channels were placed on "vacant" transponders to make up for a bug on the DP301 software.  Some DP301s didn't know what to do when they encountered these temporarily empty transponders and froze up.  In order "fix" this, Dish activated these channels.  They have absolutely no content, but they keep the 301s from blowing up.
• Three new Tax info channels added to grid...residents of the states affected, please e-mail to the address above whether you can see these channels.  127 for California, 152 Connecticut and 155 for Nevada. (ANON)  This is in addition to channel 240 in Ohio which seems to have been turned off today.

• Channel 240 is now showing information about the satellite-only tax that Governor Taft just signed into law. (Brian W)  The slate currently says "Attention:  Ohio Dish Network Subscribers.  Governor Taft signed the budget bill containing a SATELLITE TV-ONLY TAX.  This tax will go into effect August 1, 2003.  Dish Network believes that this is unfair and is working to repeal the tax.  We thank all who took the time to share your opinion with Governor Taft in opposing this tax.  www.stopsatellitetax.com"

• Added a note to channels 9941-9946 (Test Channel programming may not be that of listed channel)  This means that the channel's EPG and the channel contend do not match.  These are listed as the Richmond locals, but the programming is not that of the Richmond local stations right now. (anon)

• Muzak channel 931 has returned, but not as "Classical Ambiance"  It is now called 7890 - 4 Decades of Music.  (ANON/anon)  Took me a while to realize that 7890 means that its music from the 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000's.
• Richmond/Petersburg is now being uplinked to channels 9940-9946. (anon)  The satellite info is in dispute right now.  Will post sat info as soon as a consensus can be reached.  The 9900 block has generally been reserved for test channels so they may move later on...but who knows!
• Tallahassee local ABC, CBS, NBC and PBS are now available to subscribers. (9290, 1, 2 and 6)
• The new Dish Latino package and 800 channel block are now available to subscribers.  Looks like Telefutura East is available to AT100 subscribers, but West is part of the Dish Latino package.  The same holds true for Univision West.  (I owe some one a milk shake if this turns out to be true! :-)  A UDF Malt is the payoff!  Yum.
  • Update: As of 2:50 am Univision West is now available to AT100 subscribers.  So no UDF Malt payoff! And Telefutura West disappeared from the EPG of my 4000 after having been listed there before.  It will be coming soon to AT100 and Dish Latino.
• Channel 9102 Louisville PBS/KET2 is apparently now available to locals subscribers. (anon)

• Channels 8361, 8517, 8284, 8461, 8462, 8581, 8582, 8583, 8717, 8823 and 8959  no longer have space assigned on the satellites. (ANON) Removed the satellite info and changed the footnote from (1) or (14) to (9).
• Dish locals information channel has been plastered all over the grid.  This channel is not yet available to subscribers but it is now uplinked to channels 102, 104, 125, 196, 197 and 198 (ANON).  Some one will have to explain to me why it's on three adjacent channels.   This is only ONE channel mirrored on all 6 locations.

5/24/03

• WKMJ TV 68 Louisville, a KET2 Affiliate is now being uplinked to 61.5° transponder 22 on channel 9102.  It is not yet available to mere mortals (regular subscribers) (anon)
• KWBU TV Waco, TX was listed on channel 8995 and uplinked to transponder 7 Spot 10, but not available to subscriber, won a ruling from the FCC to have Dish carry the channel under "must carry" rules.  Dish must carry this channel by mid june.  This channel has been moved to transponder 8 at 148° and the channel number is now listed as 8992. • The channel that was listed at 8992 KAKW is still listed without a channel number and a (9) on it because it is still a possibility.
• The College station channel (Waco DMA) listed on channel 8994 is no longer uplinked.  A (9) has been added to the listing and satellite info removed.

5/23/03

• Roanoke/Lynchburg Virginia locals (9280 block) now available to subscribers without ABC or UPN.  Reported "Technical Difficulties by some.  However it has also been reported as a retrans issue.  Will update where there is firm word on the issue. 5/22/03

• Channel 449 (sports alternate 5) has disappeared but channel 465 (sports PPV) has magically reappeared on the same transponder and satellite. (ANON)

• Channels 455 and 470 changed their name from Event (PPV Events) to Sport (PPV Sports) (anon)

• Channels 541-549 from the NHL Center Ice Package and channels 562-571 from the NBA League Pass package disappeared from the EPG today however they are still being uplinked.  Changed the nots from package info to (1). (ANON)
• Channel 158's EPG name was changed from MUMSC (Much Music USA) to FUSE. (anon)
• Dish Latino channels are on the move!  The 800 block came alive again today with all the old and new Spanish language channels.  The guess on the channel numbers I made below (5/21 changes) was incorrect.  The channels are not yet available to subscribers but they should become visible on 5/29  (ANON, anon, post by Darkman on DBSTalk.com)

• Univisión West, Telefutura east and west, De Película and De Película Clásico have been added to transponder 1 at 110°. (ANON)  No channel numbers assigned yet but temporarily placed between channels 270 and 300.  Educated guesses of the channel numbers for Telefutura and Univisión.
  • As a side note...the term De Película (DEH  peh-LEE-koo-la)  litterally means "of film" or "of movies".  But the term also has a different widely accepted slang meaning.  When you tell some one you look (te ves) "de pelíicula", you are saying you look wonderful.  Or "glamorous enough to be in the movies."   The term applies to men, women, things and places.   The name of these channels is quite ingenious. • The sixth Spanish language channel today was Telehit.  This channel was added to transponder 9 at 110°  Again no channel number assigned by Dish yet (ANON)

• Jackson, Mississippi and Roanoke/Lynchburg, Virginia are now uplinked to 110 conus transponders 14 and 17 respectively on channels 9270-9286.  (ANON/anon)  The channels are not yet available to mere mortals.  Guess is that at least the Jackson channels will move to spot beams before launch.
• Channels 9399, 7999, 240 and 250 were turned on today.  The channels are entitled "Locals" but currently only displays a Dish logo.  This channels are also not available to subscribers yet. (ANON/anon).  These channels will be activated if Dish is ordered by the Miami Courts to turn off locals to up to 60% of Dish customers.  The channel will show information on why and what to do to possibly get them back on again.  The ruling may be a straight forward "turn all locals off for everyone and requalify them one at a time as they call in to reactivate locals.  That is the worst case scenario.

5/6/03

• KTVJ (8212 Denver locals) changed its affiliation from HSN to TeleFutura sometime in the recent past and at the same time changed its call letters to KTFD.  At this point the EPG name has NOT been changed and remains KTVJ is still listed on the Dish EPG. (Anon)
• Channels 266-269, 271 and 273-299 are now available to subscribers as an AT150 free preview.  These are 100% mirrors which means that very little bandwidth is being used to bring these channels.  However....Dishplayer owners....check your units in the morning to make sure the 30 some-odd "new" channels didn't blow up the EPG!

• WKFT (8757) is now available to Raleigh Locals subscribers again. (post on DBSForums.com).  To recap the story on this station, it was available at 61.5° starting on 1/1/02, but sometime in the spring of 2002 the station's transmission tower got in the way of a small plane.  The pilot was killed and the tower was knocked over.  The station's temporary transmission facility did not provide a "good quality signal" to Dish Network's POP.  Recently the station got its signal to Dish and after a few weeks of testing dish turned it on for subscribers again.
  • UPDATE: Apparantly WKFT became available to subs last Wednesday (4/30)

• AT 150 channels that will be on Free Preview are warming up in the bull pen on channels 266-269, 271 and 273-299.  Looks like they are 100% mirrors of existing channels so very little additional bandwidth is used.  It also looks like channel 264 will be in free preview right where it is and the monaural audio channels (923-949) will also be in free preview mode beginning as early as tonight. • WKFT TV from the Raleigh DMA (8757) appears to be uplinked again at 119° transponder 7 spot 14.  (anon) This independent station was on Dish previously.  However the station's transmission tower got in the way of a small aircraft.  The collision brought down the tower, killed the pilot and took the station off the air.  The station's temporary transmission facilities did not generate a "good enough" signal at Dish' Raleigh POP so the station was removed from the line-up.  It seems that after 10 months, this station may now be sending a "good quality" signal to Dish's POP again.

4/16/03

• Channel 9997 now houses WXSP-CA UPN 15 from Grand Rapids, MI.  This seems to be a signal test since the PQ is highly variable, but watchable. (anon).  This information was sent to me yesterday. UPDATE - signal quality over the last day has improved dramatically and is now ready for prime time.  The station is still not (and may never be) available to mere mortals.
• Paducah, KY et. al. TV Market has been uplinked to channels 9255-9262.  Though Dish and the local station are still working on it, the NBC affiliate has yet to come to a retransmission consent agreement with Dish. (ANON/anon)
• Channel 971 made its way back to the channel line-up.  Back to where it was. (ANON/anon).  I was informed that in reality the channel never left the satellite.  It was available FTA all week.  Why?  I don't know.
• Two name changes...Channels 103 and 500 changed names from "3 Minute PPV Guide" to "PPV Movie and Events Guide" and channels 139 and 450 changed names to "Dish Network Sports Stop".  This is strictly a PPV sports and events guide. (anon)

Changed affiliation on listing to UPN (a little early, but they do carry 2 hours of UPN prog a day now).
• Channels 459 and 461 have moved and been renamed.  The sports PPV channels are now residing on channels 147 and 148 and have the EPG names of ESPA3 and ESPA4. (ANON)  These channels  have NCAA tournament B-Mall games listed on the EPG
• Sioux Falls, SD locals have popped up on 110° and 148 on channels 9230-9241.  9 Channels in total have a spot reserved including 3 ABC affiliates.  (ANON)  Speculation follows:  It seems that the two "repeaters" for the main ABC affiliate sell local commercials to their respective markets and may have local news and weather.  The station most likely insisted that the two "affiliates" be uplinked in order to consent to have its signal carried by Dish.

• It has been widely reported that E*6 has replace E*5 at 110°.  This reportedly happened last week on Thursday.  Changed all E*5 listings to E*6.  I am still unsure about the accuracy, but considering the amount of e-mail I received on this topic, I decided to changed the list to reflect the opinion of many valued E-mail contributors.  Thank you.
• Channel 539 became active on Saturday 2/15 as advertised.  It is a Spanish Language PPV movie channel.  All the movies on this channel are produced in Spanish and are not dubs.
• Added channels 9975-9978 to the grid.  These are PSK (High Definition) test channels.  9975 & 76 at 148° tp 10 and 9977 & 78 at 61.5° tp 4. (ANON)

• Channel 8622 KWDK which is a Daystar affiliate now has the following information on the EPG "Moving to channel 9408 January 29."  Channel 9408 is the national Daystar channel. (Jeff F)

• Added RDRCT channel 9950.  This is a slate that is aparantly only active for people who do NOT have a Dish pointed at 61.5°, 148° or 129° and have local channels available there.  The slate reads "You must have a second dish to view this channel.  DISH Network will provide the dish free of any charge. Call 1-800-333-DISH" (ANON) This channel is remapped to local channels affected.  It never appears on a customer's EPG on channel 9950.

• Omaha locals ABC, CBS, PBS (Council Bliffs) and PBS (Omaha @ 148° (Channels 9140, 9141, 9146 and 9147) now available to Omaha DMA subscribers.
• WTBS, Atlanta local channel 17, is now available to atlanta subscribers at 61.5°.  Any subscribers in Atlanta that want a free dish installed for free just need to subscribe to the Atlanta locals package and request the free dish.  No strings attached.  800-333-3474.  WATC which was listed on that channel space is no longer listed in the grid. • Removed footnote 12 by request since it was made redundant by updating all Open TV compatible receiver with the capability to get channel 100.  Footnote on channel 100 changed from 12 to 11

1/15/03

• Two new channels popped up today.  Both seem to be the same and are not available to subscribers.  They are called DSTOP and are on channels 147 and 410. (anon).
• Cedar Rapids locals popped up on the Dishplayer "hidden" guide.  They are now listed on the grid on channels 9155-9161 (JH)
• Channel 982 (Holiday Music) has gone away for another year. (anon)  Expect it to return the second week of November.
• KNWS Houston which was uplinked to 148 has been moved to 119° spot beam.  However this channel is still not listed as available on the Houston package. (anon)

• Added channel numbers to the new Cinemax channels being added.  313 and 314 according to the Charlie Chat 1/13
• Omaha locals coming (sort of).  No NBC WB or Fox as of now.  Other Omaha locals to be added 1/16/03

1/11/03

• It has been reported that transponder 5, 17 and 25 at 110° now appear to be emanating from E*8 instead of E*5.  (DDRio)  This is based on signal readings at the edge of E*5's coverage area.  The chart was changed accordingly.
• Miami "big 4" Networks "moving" from the 700 block to the 8000 block 1/22/03 according to notes on the EPG (anon)  This is undoubtedly the first step in clearing the duplicate channels fromt he 700/800 blocks.  Added a note to the affected channels.

1/9/03

• Business TV channels 9601 and 9602 moved to "new" channel spaces 9603 and 9604.  (Jeff F) Channels 9601 and 9602 really the "new" channels.  Both are business TV channels at 110° on transponder 26.  9603 and 9604 are still mirrored on channels 225 and 227 when available to regular subscribers.
• Added 5 Star Max and Action Max to the lineup right after channel 312. This story claims these channels will be added 2/1/03.

1/8/03

• Discovery Kids (179) and Discovery Civilization (192) moved from transponder 26 to transponder 17 at 110° (anon)
• The channel 402 free preview of NBA-TV presently on channel 560 has been moved up 2 days and starts Monday 1/13 and ends 2/10.  After that point the channel will only be available to America's Everything, Multi-Sport and NBA League Pass subscribers. (Rob).  Channel 560 is currently available to all subscribers so the preview has already begun.
• Looks like Non-Stop Hip-Hop has stopped for good!  Channel 962 which used to be NSHH and went off the air for a while is now NUJazz.  This channel plays up-beat new jazz tracks.

• Thanks to all who sent in the correction on channel 560 NBA-TV.  This channel is in free preview through 2/10/03.  It will be part of America's Everything Pack and the Multi-Sports Packages after that.  A free preview of the channel will be mirrored on channel 402 from 1/15-2/10/03.
• Channel 8082 has been incorrectly listed as origination from Fort Royal, VA.  It should have read FRONT Royal, Va. (Bob G)

• CNBC World added to channel 207 on the AT150 line-up at 110° transponder 20.
• NBA TV available to AT150 on channel 560 from 110° transponder 7
• Channel 496 (Extasy) EPG name changed from XTSY to TXTSY.  (anon)
• Channel 494 (Erotic TV Clips) EPG name changed from ECLIP to TCLIP (anon)
• Kansas City, Tulsa and Oklahoma City locals were posted as being uplinked to E*7 spot beam 8 at 119° (anon)  This was a clerical error on the editor's part.  All these channels have been on spot 9.  Spot 8 is pointed at Mexico City and is inactive at this time.  Apologies for the misinformation.

New Years Day 2003 (HAPPY NEW YEAR!)

• WNGS TV 67 which was the UPN affiliate for Buffalo and WNLO TV 23 (Dish channel 9132) Which was an independent station in Buffalo, NY have switched affiliations.  WNLO is now UPN and WNGS is now independent as of today.  WNGS has never been uplinked to any E* satellite and is only listed at Dish channel 9130 because of a newspaper article that mentioned the station would be picked up by Dish when the locals became available via Dish in Buffalo.
